Note 125 Getting My Email Game Under Control

What have you been working on?

For several days over the last week, I have been steadily focused on organizing and cleaning out my Gmail account… and not just one of them, but all of them… and I have a bunch of them.

For years I have acquired a lot of email addresses for different projects, and I allowed all of my email inboxes to accumulate tons of unread emails. If I wanted to start a new blog, I had to have an email address specifically for that project. Then I stopped updating the blog, and therefore never went back to manage the email. Rinse and repeat.

I have realized that this is an area in my life that is out of control by my own doing. I’ve also realized that I can fix this problem, and maybe even get rid of some Gmail accounts I don’t really use. I just need to spend the time necessary to make this happen. The problem for me is not the number of unsorted email accounts that I have, but is the simple fact I no longer know what is going on with them.

I have started using the Mozilla Thunderbird email client, and I will be adding all of my emails to this client as I get them organized. This should help me to centralize all of my Gmail accounts to one place where I can more easily manage them and keep them under control.

I have literally put my blogging and social network interaction largely on hiatus until I get my email mess under control. So that is what I’ve been working on most lately.

Now I look at lazy days as time to refresh my mind on being mentally focused so that I am feeling motivated back to putting in 100% of my efforts.

Note 116 The Two Things You Need In A Coffee Shop To Actually Get Work Done

A change of routine when you need to work or study is a good thing. Hell, I’ve even recommended changing your clothes to get into study mode. The more traditional approach to shaking things up is heading to a coffee shop to get stuff done, but there are a few things you should keep in mind when selecting one (besides that the coffee is decent and the wifi is fast).

Note 096 Sort Your Email By Sender Before Cleaning Your Inbox

There are a lot of methods to try in the never-ending quest for a way to sort through and slim down our bulging inboxes. But they all have one thing in common: They rely on the chronology of when each email came in. Let’s try turning that approach on its head, and instead, sort by sender to weed through the mess.
