Note 334 X Is Reportedly Soliciting People To Buy Recycled User Handles For $50,000

X has been trying to find buyers for user handles it reclaimed from inactive accounts, even going so far as to send out solicitation emails asking for “a flat fee of $50,000 to initiate a purchase,” according to Forbes. Elon Musk announced back in May that X, formerly Twitter, would start purging accounts that have gone dormant, and has alluded to plans for recycling disused handles.

Note 191 Pad53 Now Has Three Socials You Can Follow

Thanks to WordPress and Jetpack, I have now been able to connect 3 social platforms to Pad53.com so that my website can automatically update them with the latest posts. This gives you more options to follow my content, and may make it easier or more convenient for you to share the content on your favorite platform. I am grateful to WordPress.com and Jetpack for providing these features so that I can easily distribute my posts from this blog. The platforms you may enjoy my automatic updates on are Facebook, Mastodon, and Tumblr. Unfortunately Twitter is out of the picture on this since Elon Musk charges arms and legs for API access, and my webhost provider refuses to pay it, which sucks. You can find the web addresses to my socials to follow for updates below.

Mastodon – https://mastodon.social/@Pad53
Tumblr – https://www.tumblr.com/pad53

Note 160 Elon Musk Thinks Twitter’s Community Notes Is A Better Replacement for Wikipedia

Elon Musk has lost his damn mind (again). Wikipedia does have it’s faults. For example don’t trust Wiki pages for living politicians since anyone can edit them. But Twitter and Community Notes is by no means a replacement for Wikipedia. There is actually a lot of valuable information and interestinf topics to discover there. Did someone edit Elon’s Wikipedia page to say something he doesn’t like?

Note 121 Mastodon Has Spoiled Me Part 001

How has Mastodon spoiled me this time? NO ADS!

I’m loving it. Mastodon may not yet have the same variety of big name accounts to follow like Twitter and Facebook do, but I am definitely loving the NO ADS experience.

I wrote about it on Mastodon earlier today, and this was what I said: “Well well well, whodathunkit, but I’m getting tired of the other networks (Twitter, Facebook)… because ads. There is a reason I don’t populate my blogs and websites with 3rd party adverts. I could, but I don’t, because I too hate ads, and I don’t like subjecting my website viewers to that mess. I make photo and art ebooks people can buy if they want to support my work in blogging. I guess this is also one of the reasons Mastodon is growing on me. No ads.”

Don’t get me wrong. I get it that mainstream social networks like Twitter, and Facebook need to make an income to support the platforms, but it is ridiculous how many ads they show in sequence. It’s like every other 3rd post is an ad. You don’t get that on Mastodon which is open source, federated, and supported by donations. And for me, as far as publishing and engaging with the accounts I have found interesting enough to follow on Mastodon, this is great. It means that the time I spend scrolling on Mastodon is spent actually seeing more interesting contents without ad interruptions. No ads, it’s free, and it’s still receiving the monetary support it needs to stay in service. You can’t beat that.

Note 101 X Starts Experimenting With A $1 Per Year Fee For New Users

X, formerly Twitter, announced today that is starting a new experiment to charge a $1 per year fee for “new unverified” users to interact with posts. The company said this test is currently live in New Zealand and the Philippines and existing users won’t be affected.

Note 099 I Made Another Twitter Account After I Said I Wasn’t Going To

Don’t judge me lol.

Ok I said I wasn’t going to do it after my @ArtBDT was suspended, but I made another Twitter account @Pad53News. It’s just difficult to deny that Twitter isn’t the easiest platform to discover article publishers on. I don’t know how much interaction I will place on this new Twitter account. I set it up primarily for discovering new websites to follow. I will have to keep my non-politically correct ass out of comments, especially about politics if I want any level of worthwhile use as a content consumer on this new account.

I have an idea for this new Twitter account. Since it is brand new, this gives me the opportunity to start collecting a new list of resources to follow. It will allow me to create a new directory at Pad53.com, and to see what publishers are on Mastodon as I discover them. With the new directory, I will list sites by what they do, and not by what platform they are on. It is my hope that this new method of content consumption and discovery will help me build resources I can’t lose again if my new account gets suspended.

Note 098 Could Social Media Suspensions And Overall Platform Changes Cause An Uptick in RSS Usage?

Recently my Twitter (X) account was suspended. For who knows what? They won’t say. I’m really pissed off about it because of all the work I did to establish the account, even going so far as to subscribe to X Pro and ID verify my account. I still have a few other Twitter accounts, but I’ll get to that later in this post.

Note 012 Twitter Who?

Well, it’s been a few days or so since Twitter and Mastodon both have suspended my accounts. Normally I would be freaked out over this since social networks are the easiest ways to find interesting content to follow. But this morning I was just thinking… am I really missing an opportunity to hunt down content that appeals to me? There are other methods such as simply searching Google or other search engines, and RSS aggregators like Feedly. I think instead of allowing myself to get into a fog over not having access to my social network pages, I just turn focus to more traditional ways of finding content.

All that money I would be paying Twitter (X) for a check mark, and some extra features, can now be put toward building my own website. Mastodon isn’t really a great standard for following content… at least not yet. I’m definitely not missing anything there except a few XXX pages I had found. I still have several Twitter accounts, but I’m not sure that I’m even going to continue using them. As for Mastodon, I doubt it will be very hard to set up another account there if I decide to give it another try. I’ll just have to create another email address for that if I do. The thing about Mastodon though is that it seems to be inhabited by the woke mob and fucking trannies, and I don’t know if it’s worth trying to get back on Mastodon or not. I’m sure it was a tranny in Canada that got my account suspended over words. Fuck that bitch.

At any rate, I’m feeling skeptical about social networks right now. Are they really worth fucking with if you can’t avoid suspensions over non-pc bullshit, and find it difficult to build a following? I’m sure I’m going to reach a point where I’ll feel the need to try Mastodon again. Who knows? I do like that Mastodon has a easy link verification process. I’m probably going to give Mastodon another try with a new account, but I think I’ll stand down and away from it for awhile to give myself some time to cool off after my account was suspended.
