Note 295 New Samsung Galaxy A7 Lite 8 Inch Android Tablet Urge To Splurge 002

Ok I know I just recently bought the Onn 7 inch 3rd Generation Android Tablet. I like it, but with only 2GB RAM, it is a little slow. So tonight I wasn’t really looking to blow some more money, but I have some extra to spare, so whatever.

Tonight I went back to Walmart and I bought a light gray Samsung Galaxy A7 Lite 8.7 Inch Tablet. What is cool about this new tablet is that it isn’t much bigger than the 7 inch tablet I have. So I get more screen for about the same physical size. Also it has 3GB of RAM which really isn’t a lot more, but could make a big difference in performance for the type of work I do on tablets. As I am writing this, the tablet is charging. I’ll update later as to whether or not I like working with it.

Note 261 New Onn Brand 7 Inch 3rd Generation Tablet Urge To Splurge 001

Ok so for about a week, I have been feeling the urge to splurge. Ever since my schedule changed a few weeks ago, and because this new schedule requires me to be seen by more people, I am not able to drag out my laptop at the facility like I can on the weekends when I’m the only one around.

So I have been looking for a smaller laptop that might not be as “obvious” as my 17 inch, 15 inch, or even my 14 inch laptops (all HP Brand). I haven’t been able to find anything.

I’ve been eyeballing the Microsoft Surface Pro tablets which can function like a laptop. As of this post there is a Surface Pro 7 Plus model (yes 2 years old – but would probably work well for my needs) on sale for $600 and that includes a detachable keyboard. Something like that would probably allow me to carry it on me at all times (maybe) and be able to set it down wherever if I had a need to get online with it for some reason, unlike with a conventional laptop. So I have to make up my mind soon whether or not to get it.

This urge to splurge thing I have going on right now is because I need a easily portable device to manage my blogging when I need something bigger than my phone, but don’t want to be seen by people literally setting up an entire work station with my 17 inch laptop, wireless keyboard, JBL Pulse 4 Bluetooth speaker, all the power and USB hub cables I need, and my wireless mouse lol.

So anyway, tonight I remembered that I have been also eyeballing the Onn Brand tablets at Walmart. I already have a 8 inch model of those (2020 edition I think), but I’ve been wanting a 7 inch model to try. I bought the 3rd generation model, which I think is the latest model. I also bought a case and a Popsocket for it.

The screen on this new tablet is not much different in size compared to my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it has a wider aspect ratio, and with the bezels this tablet has, I though I might find it it easier to hold and type on when I am doing a lot of thumb type writing like I am this blog post (on the tablet), and I am finding that to be the case.

To add to the ease of typing thing, normally I use the A.I. Type Android Keyboard, however that keyboard app does not work on this tablet (it only has 2 GB ram). So I had to uninstall that and just use Google’s Gboard keyboard that came preinstalled. I am finding it a little easier to type on this wider screen with that keyboard (less errors) it seems.

For just $60 dollars plus tax, I was able to calm my urge to splurge just a little bit until I get my mind made up about the Surface Pro 7 Plus, and I got a great little tablet that is comfortable to use and that I can get some blogging done with. Sure I can (and have been) blog on my phone, but having this extra device may save me from having to charge my phone so much through the night.
